Winter walking

We took a walk the other night along Vancouver’s Coal Harbour sea wall, towards Lost Lagoon.  Once there, we had to pause to watch the most fantastic sunset.  The fountain in the middle had been turned off for the Christmas season and replaced with a string-tree of coloured lights, and I was happy to see they hadn’t removed it yet.

By the time we got back to some warmth, my face was frozen, but it was totally worth it!  I added some pics to my “winter” gallery, but could just as easily at them to my “sunsets” collection.

Stay warm out there!

A step back in time

Christmas season is upon us, and the other day we took a little stroll through the Burnaby Heritage Village.  They’ve decked the whole place out for Christmas, and it was a great way to get into the spirit of the holidays.

We went during the day, and though they had the lights all up and on, I could see the potential for the magic to happen at night, when the lights are glowing and the village takes on a whole different mood.

If you haven’t been lately, I encourage you to visit! I know we’ll be back soon!

I’ve added some pics to my Winter gallery.

Steveston in November

Well, Sunday unexpectedly turned out to be the better of the two days in the weekend, so I headed down to Steveston, grabbing my scarf on the way out the door — you know, just in case….

Turns out, I should have grabbed a toque (ski cap (?), for you Americans), gloves, a winter coat, and maybe a second scarf!

There was a little sun trying to make its way through the cloud, and certainly it wasn’t raining… but boy was it cold!

I kept my camera around my neck, with one hand on it to keep it from swinging too much, and within minutes, my fingers started going numb with the cold.  What was I doing??  But I fought the urge to put the camera back in my bag, in case the moment happened that I could capture an image that might never occur again.

Maybe I didn’t capture any “never-again” moments, but I caught a couple of pics…… which I’ve added to my Steveston album.
No matter the day, no matter the mood…. Steveston always seems to be able to return me to myself.

Just another sunny autumn day

We took a walk the other day, enjoying the sunshine (and the cold), and came across a round-about with a community garden planted in the middle.  From the tree hung little birdhouses, and I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures.

Spanish Banks

Yesterday was a perfect day to take a walk down along Vancouver’s Spanish Banks.  It’s late October now, so there’s a definite crispness to the air, but the sun was out, and it was warm enough to stroll wearing a zip-up hoody and no jacket.

The fog covered the water, lifting one moment, then falling like a veil in the next, making even the giant freighters anchored in the bay seem like ghost ships.

I love October!!

Of course, I always have my camera in hand, and caught a few pics I thought worth posting 🙂

A wine weekend in the Okanagan

We’re just back from a wonderful long weekend in BC’s wine country: the Okanagan.  This year we stayed in Osoyoos and explored the wineries in the area that we hadn’t been able to get to on previous visits.  It’s amazing how many wineries there are!

The weather was spectacular, and the scenic views just can’t be beat.  And of course, I took my camera along for the journey, as we hopped from winery to winery and tried out their wares.

If you haven’t been, I highly recommend a visit to BC’s Okanagan 🙂

Photo Walk

On Saturday, I was invited by friend to join her on a Worldwide Photo Walk in Steveston — my favourite place!

I didn’t know what to expect at all, knowing only where to meet, and that there was a maximum of 50 people signed up… so I pictured a horde of us stomping through the lanes of Steveston with our cameras swinging from our necks, snapping at anything that took our fancy.

Well, it wasn’t quite that.  We met at the appointed hour, but were given free reign from there, and if I was an outsider looking in, it would have only appeared as though there were more people with cameras in Steveston that day, rather than any kind of organized event.

The best part was, I got to spend time with a friend I haven’t seen in years (thank you, Trudy!), and it was the perfect day for a wander while playing with my camera. 🙂

I’ve included some pics, here in my Steveston collection 🙂

Harvest

Believe it or not, these are all carrots.  Grown in our tiny little townhouse garden, we harvested them a few weeks ago and were surprised with their varied colours and shapes.

They reminded me a little of a favourite childhood book, “Bugs Bunny’s Carrot Machine”, in which Bugs builds a carrot machine that spits out carrots that are green, square, wrong texture… every thing a carrot is not supposed to be.

Well these carrots may not look like carrots, but they sure tasted like carrots… fresh from the garden 🙂

August in Steveston

Well, with only one day off to spend with my husband this weekend, we stayed close to home.  We decided to take a walk down to Steveston, and while I haven’t been feeling terribly inspired lately, I still carried my camera with me.

Though it was cloudy, it stayed really really warm, and I should have thought twice about my choice in footwear, as my feet slid and sweated inside my slip-on sneakers.  Too much info for you?  Yah, probably.  haha!

But I got a few pics I like… got to spend a great day with my husband… and got to stretch our legs.  Not a bad day all in all 🙂

Steveston shots are here

And I took a few shots of our One-Eyed Susans (that’s a flower, not a girl) in the back garden. I love their rag-tag style and bright yellow colour… though I’ve noticed that other people’s Susans aren’t so rag-tag…. so… not sure what’s up in our yard.

Summer Boating

I know I’ve been quiet lately, but now I’m back from a refreshing holiday on the boat, floating around the Gulf Islands.

We are so lucky to be able to experience this amazing part of BC, and pictures alone can’t capture it all.  I tried, though, with a few pics here:
